about

On March 20, Arizona-via-New York City artist-producer Emmy Wildwood will release her new album Heavy Petals. She self-produced the nine-track set, which was recorded at her home studio in Tucson, Arizona and mixed by Nathan Sabatino at Hi-Dez Recording in Joshua Tree, California (Dr. Dog, Michael Nau, Flaming Lips). The record follows her recent All My Blood EP, which was released this January and has earned support from BUST Magazine, Uproxx, The Line Of Best Fit, Popdust, and Bitch Magazine, who tapped Wildwood to curate their "Bitchtapes" playlist for their Spring 2019 issue.

Wildwood's solo career began in earnest in 2013, following the release of her debut EP Mean Love, which earned praise from Ryan Seacrest, Patricia Fields, Logo.'s NewNowNext, Brooklyn Vegan, and more. That year she opened a boutique-record label hybrid, Tiger Blanket, on Graham Ave. in Brooklyn, which produced limited edition 7" vinyl for local bands including Mother Feather. The experiment, which included hosting pop-up events and concerts, helped grow Wildwood's profile in the 212: TimeOutNY named her one of their "Most Fashionable New Yorkers" that year, while the Village Voice hailed her as their "Best Indie Pop Star" in their annual Best Of issue. Her single “Scream" also earned a synch on FOX's “Scream Queens” soundtrack (Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts).

In 2018, Wildwood moved home to Tucson, after a decade spent living and playing in New York. She got sober, and came back to center, thanks to the city's contagious lo fi spirit, which helped her embrace and reconnect with her own punk and DIY origins in the community, and "the girl who made all of her own flyers for her punk band and played at Skrappy’s the local all ages venue," she says. She learned ProTools, with the guidance of Sabatino, after losing touch with her vision and confidence in her artistry. "I knew unless every second of this record was intrinsically motivated, I would be disappointed. I didn’t care if it was perfect because I already knew it wouldn't be," she says. She documented the learning process via an IGTV blog, also titled Heavy Petals, which she broadcast live to her 24K Instagram followers. "The sweat behind this thing mattered the most to me. All I wanted was to use the voice of that girl who would do anything to have someone feel the emotional impact of her songs."
